An interview with De Sube is a white trans woman and activist based in Virginia Beach, Virginia. At the time of this interview, she served as the Chairperson, Director of Client Services, and Treasurer of the Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia, a group she co-founded. She also is a co-founder of the Gender Expression Movement support group, and has decades of experience as an activist and advocate for transgender people in Virginia. In this oral history interview, Sube discusses her work with TAP Virginia, the challenges of transgender life in Virginia, the increase in visibility of trans people over the past ten years, and the history of and changes seen in various LGBTQ service and non-profit organizations in Virginia over the years. She additionally discusses the passage of the Virginia Values Act, the importance of coalition-building, and her specific experiences of transition.
