Part of James Gardiner Collection: photograph album labelled ‘Drag’.

The men in drag are both smiling and raising their glasses, whilst sharing a drink at a small table. Two older ladies having a drink and a gossip was a favourite comic drag routine from the 1900s (as seen in the present photograph autographed by J. Brittain and Fred. Powell), right up to the 1970s and 80s with the popularity on television of such performers as Les Dawson and Hinge and Bracket. In the 21st century David Walliams and Matt Lucas gave it a new slant in 'Little Britain' on BBC television
